6.0 Included Fixes
The following sections provide information regarding fixes included in this service pack:

[T24A204] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that backup jobs involving files or directories with names containing accented characters now finish properly without generating the message "Failed to begin scan for directory" when you use, at minimum, NetWare 6.0 Service Pack 5. To enable this solution, add the following setting to the ASCONFIG.INI file:
[NetWare Backup/Restore]
performanceNonNakoma=TRUE

[T4C4011] During backup operations, you no longer receive the error "Failed to open catalog file MASGF2/SYS:\ARCSERVE\TEMP\00000001.TMP, errno=1, NetWareErrno=ff" in the ARCH$SVR.LOG file.

[T4C4013] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that when you choose the Real time Statistics option for an agent backup operation and enable the Multi-read option on the agent side, the scheduler screen displays the appropriate, accurate information.

[T512009] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now properly backs up only the correct Cluster directories when Include filters with long names are specified.

[QO64250] [T30D040] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been enhanced to support new devices. For the most current Certified Device list, visit http://supportconnect.ca.com.
In addition, BrightStor ARCserve Backup tape engine components have been enhanced to ensure that, if an uncertified device is detected, BrightStor ARCserve Backup stops and generates a message notifying you of the problem. The following two error messages have been added to notify you of the presence of unsupported hardware:

E6918: An un-certified/un-supported device has been detected! Check the Computer Associates technical support website for more information
If an uncertified Tape Drive is detected, this error appears on the CSLOADER screen and in the tape$svr.log to help you to avoid using a device with incorrect operating characteristics that can cause data integrity issues.

E6920: A conflicting device driver [XXXXXXXX.CDM] was detected! Please unload and rename the driver to prevent it from loading upon reboot!
This error notifies you of driver conflict to help avoid the data integrity issues that device control contention can cause. The BrightStor ARCserve Backup drivers (CANWPA.CDM and CHEYFC.CDM) interact with tape devices attached to the NetWare server. NetWare may also load Novell- or OEM-supplied CDM drivers, particularly if the tape device was attached to the system when the operating system was installed.

If either of these errors are generated, the Tapesvr engine stops initializing and unloads. If both certified and uncertified devices are attached to the system, you can add the following entry to the x:\ARCserve\NLM\Tapesvr.cfg file to allow Tapesvr to load:

[CONFIG]
UnsupportedDeviceOverride=ENABLED

Important! This switch is provided to allow you to use other certified devices attached to the system. Do not add it to use unsupported devices.

[T4C4009] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that it correctly locates all sessions on spanned tapes during the compare phase.

[T4C4010] You can now reliably restore backed up GroupWise data using the Restore by Media option.

[T50A013] You can now reliably run backup jobs through virtual cluster nodes with Compare enabled. We recommend that you do so if you have high server utilization with multiple applications running or if you have high CPU utilization issues with ASCLUS or FSTAPE during backup operations with Compare enabled. To run these jobs successfully, add the following switch to the ASCONFIG.INI file in the arcserve folder:
[NetWare Backup/Restore]
NumberDataSetThreadSwitch=0

The default setting for this switch is 0, indicating no change in the behavior. Set this value to balance CPU utilization and backup performance. The greater the value of this switch, the higher the performance; the lower the value, the higher the utilization. You can set this value according to the client backup needs and server configuration (for example, 10000).

[T50A015] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the correct data is displayed in the Backup Manager when you expand virtual cluster nodes.

[T50A018] Changes to the session numbers in the Version History dialog of the Restore by Tree view are now properly applied to the folder view.

[T511007] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably moves all tapes into the save set when you run jobs spanning multiple tapes over a SAN network.

[T511011] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the (Remove Source Node) Delete File option properly removes subdirectories from backed up directories after Arcopy jobs.

[T512010] [T512011] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably clears archive bits after the full backup is run in 5-day differential rotation schemes.

[T512013] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably runs the proper and correct types of backup jobs in 5-day incremental GFS rotation schemes.

[T513006] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that Compare operations no longer erroneously generate the error message "E1030 Failed to eject media, 11d" for each media change in backup operations spanning multiple tapes.

[T514008] Files and folders now reliably appear under the correct folder or parent.

[T514009] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to improve throughput when you back up more than 72 GB of data.

[T453016] Backup jobs involving multiple sessions with Active merge enabled now reliably rename *.tmp files to *.bak files.

[QO72312] This update adds support for the following devices:

Tandberg StorageLoader

Tandberg TS420 LTO2 drive

For a complete list of supported devices, visit http://supportconnect.ca.com

[T11B294] Testnlm no longer fails to load.

[T11B297] You can now properly view all cluster servers in the Restore by Tree view when you have backed up multiple cluster servers.

[T11B300] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you can back up sessions of over 4 GB to File System Devices without problems.

[T11B302] [T11B306] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to improve performance during backup operations when you are running eTrust Antivirus in your environment. The performance was impacted because eTrust Antivirus scanned files multiple times during backup operations. To disable this scanning, you must have BrightStor ARCserve Backup and eTrust Antivirus integration enabled on the backup job and add the following to the asconfig.ini in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup home directory:
[NetWare Backup/Restore]
disableeTrustScan=TRUE

In addition, BrightStor ARCserve Backup eTrust Antivirus integration no longer causes the server to fail.

[T11B303] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that, if the Client Agent for NetWare reports an Unknown operation mode error, the backup or restore job continues to run after generating the error "Agent is busy, reject job request."

[T11B304] You can now back up data without encountering difficulty when the highest sequence tape of a tape set is in the scratch set and the sequence one tape is still in the save set.

[T11B305] Mirror copy jobs now properly release TSA connections.

[T11B307] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you can reliably overwrite tapes in the default media pool.

[T11B308] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the data in the daily log is overwritten each day.

[T11B310] [T11B311] You can now back up full volume clients without generating the error message "E4208 Error during backup" in the activity log.

[T11B312] You can now reliably connect to the server from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare manager.

[T11B314] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that all tapes used in backup jobs that span tapes are moved into the save set after the sessions are backed up.

[T11B315] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the archive bit is properly reset on NetWare 6.5.

[T11B316] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the Client Agent for NetWare supports virus scanning.

[T11B317] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to allow you to scan, merge, and restore sessions backed up with BrightStor ARCserve Backup v9.0 and BrightStor ARCserve Backup v7.0 without generating "Invalid file header" errors. To do so, apply this service pack and add the following switch to the asconfig.ini file:
[Device Activity Dispatcher]
MergeLegacyTapes=YES

After you have scanned, merged, or restored the data from these tapes, reset the MergeLegacyTapes parameter to NO.

[T24A200] To decrease the level of SLP traffic in local networks, BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer polls remote servers through SLP communications after ARCserve.nlm is loaded.

[T24A202] You can now reliably restore sessions containing cluster volumes to the original locations.

[T24A205] Jobs backing up remote servers with more than three volumes using NetWare services no longer fail with the error message "E3015 Service connection broken, 1" on the third volume.
You may need to add one of the following settings to the ASCONFIG.INI file NetWare Backup/Restore section, based on the version of NetWare you use:

If you are using, at minimum, NetWare 6.0 SP5, add the following:
performanceNonNakoma=TRUE

If you are using, at minimum, NetWare 6.5, add the following:
UseMultipleReadThreads = FALSE

[T24A209] BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare has been updated to improve performance during browsing.

[T24A210] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that, when the SAN Option is installed and backup jobs span from sequence one to sequence two of a tape set, both tapes are properly placed in the save set.

[T24A212] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that, when you issue the ASTOP command at the NetWare console, tapesvr.nlm unloads properly when LSI Adaptec Cards are installed on your NetWare system.

[T30D041] BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare has been enhanced to enable the User Profile feature. For information about this feature, see the section User Profiles on NetWare in this document.

[T354093] The Buffer Size field on the Job Engine tab of the Server Admin configuration dialog is now five digits long.

[T354094] You can now submit jobs with date filters without encountering problems with the GUI.

[T354097] [T4C4001] SSI information is now reliably backed up by the Agent for Open Files.

[T354101] You can now reliably modify jobs, or set them to repeat, without changing the date specified in the date filter.

[T402010] NSS pools are no longer deactivated during backups with Ofanssx.nlm.

[T402011] Copy mirror jobs now properly delete files and directories in the destination.

[T402012] BrightStor ARCserve Backup now reliably recognizes the Agent for Open Files on systems during open file backup jobs.

[T402015] Snapshot volumes are now properly deleted after backup jobs using ofanssx.nlm.

[T402019] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the IRF is reset during remote copy jobs.

[T50A012] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the NetWare server no longer abends after you apply fix number Q063594. Previously, after applying this fix, if you submitted any job, the server would fail.

[T511001] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that you must enter a correct session password to restore sessions backed up using a password.

[T511003] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that the Restore by Session view displays all subordinate directories, subdirectories, and files for directories with single-character names backed up using the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agent for UNIX.

[T511005] You can now format tapes using European date format (DD/MM/YYYY) rather than the US format (MM/DD/YYYY).

[T511007] Jobs spanning multiple tapes over SAN networks now properly move the first tape in the set to the save set.

[T512001] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that only the files or directories identified using the full path in filters are backed up.

[T512002] BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer erroneously backs up temporary database files during backup operations.

[T512003] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that Exclude filters only exclude the specified directories.

[T514002] You can now properly expand clustered GroupWise items in the left pane of the Restore Manager.

[T514003] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that databases over 2 GB in size are reduced in size when packed.

[T514006] The number of files written to media is now reliably displayed in the log. In addition, the number of files compared now equals the number of files written.

[T453011] The Backup Manager Source tab now properly and correctly indicates the actual size of files with more than 4 GB of data.

[T453013] The Compare function now reliably performs compare operations during backups of individual files from cluster volumes.

[T453014] BrightStor ARCserve Backup no longer incorrectly logs the error message "E4206 Disk is almost full" when the catalog file is larger than 2 GB. Previously, this error message appeared even though the volume contained 8 GB of free space.

[T4C4002] BrightStor ARCserve Backup has been updated to ensure that it properly recognizes licenses for the Client Agent for NetWare.

[T4C4005] The NetWare Manager now properly indicates the progress of active backup operations.

8.0 Known Issues for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1
The following sections provide information about issues known to exist and reported in the previous release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare. These sections are identical to the sections in the original BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for NetWare readme except that some items have been removed as they have been addressed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8.1 General Issues
The following section provides information about general issues known to exist in this release:

During the installation of any agent or option, you may receive the message, "Fatal Error, A fatal error has occurred. This program will terminate. You may check C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell\ni\data\ni.log for more details after you dismiss this dialog." This error occurs because of a problem with the way in which NetWare caches setup files. If you receive this message, you must purge the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell directory.
Alternately, you can install the product to a new destination directory.

You can use the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup for Windows Manager to manage NetWare servers running BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare, but the Manager cannot discover these servers automatically. To manage NetWare servers running BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows Manager, you must add these servers manually.

The BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare Manager has limited support for extended character sets on French and German NetWare servers. The Manager cannot correctly display certain French and German characters in the GUI. This limited support does not affect backup or restore functionality, but it may affect the client agent. Refer to the Client Agent Issues section for more information.

To perform a complete recovery of your GroupWise application and database, run a full backup of all volumes containing GroupWise directories as well as backups through the GWTSA and perform the following procedure during recovery:

Reinstall the GroupWise components to the same location from which it was backed up.

Reinstall all GroupWise patches and service packs in place at time of the last backup.

Restore all GroupWise directories from the full volume backup.

Restore sessions backed up through TSA.

Database names with extended characters are not supported for the BrightStor® ARCserve® Backup Agent for MySQL. MySQL is unable to open these databases. We are working with Novell to resolve this issue.

Because of a change in Netware 6.5, you must now back up clusters using virtual servers rather than by cluster volumes.

If you select a remote server, with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agent for NetWare installed, from the Backup Manager under Network\Netware Services, the job always backs up NDS through the agent regardless of the setting of the Use Agent option. If you restore this type of session to its original location, you must enter the server IP address manually in the Security Information field for the restore operation to be successful.

BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare does not support iSCSI devices.

BrightStor ARCserve Backup for NetWare does not support volume names longer than 33 characters long. This is a volume name or mount point, restriction (full path names longer than 33 characters are supported). For example, a mount point of /net/unixserver/storage/backup_files/location would be too long.

CATIRPC 7654 servername 1.2.3.4
