______________________________________________________________________
4.1  Installation Considerations for the Agent for Oracle (UNIX)

The following section provides information about
installation prerequisites, configurations, and issues to
consider before installing the BrightStor ARCserve Backup
for UNIX Agent for Oracle:

*   Any Oracle job already submitted in the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup queue before you upgrade must be removed and
recreated. These jobs do not work with the newer version of
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle.
This includes any job containing at least one Oracle
     instance backup.

______________________________________________________________________
4.2  Installation Considerations for the Agent for Oracle (Linux)

The following section provides information about
installation prerequisites, configurations, and issues to
consider before installing the BrightStor ARCserve Backup
for Linux Agent for Oracle:

*   Any Oracle job already submitted in the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup queue before you upgrade must be removed and
recreated. These jobs do not work with the newer version of
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for Oracle.
This includes any job containing at least one Oracle
     instance backup.

______________________________________________________________________
5.0  General Considerations

The following sections provide general information to
consider when using BrightStor ARCserve Backup. No changes
have been made to the general considerations for each
BrightStor ARCserve Backup component for this service pack.
However, after the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup
r11.5, information relating to the following agents was
included in this readme because these agents are now
included in this CD:

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows Agent for Oracle

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for Oracle

The added information is identical to the information
supplied for these agents by the readme files for each
platform for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

______________________________________________________________________
5.1  Agent for Oracle (UNIX) Considerations

The following section provides information to consider when
using the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for
Oracle:

*   Although the Disk Staging Option has been added to
BrightStor ARCserve Backup, child jobs generated by RMAN
use the full backup staging policy. You cannot currently
extend incremental or differential staging policies to the
child jobs generated by RMAN, although this functionality
is expected to be included in a future release.

______________________________________________________________________
5.2  Agent for Oracle (Linux) Considerations

The following section provides information to consider when
using the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for
Oracle:

*   The Restore by Media and Restore by Session options are not
     supported for this release.

*   Cross-platform management is supported only on the Agent
for Oracle, Agent for Informix, and Agent for Sybase.

*   Because of a requirement imposed by Oracle, you must add
the following to the Common Agent configuration file,
agent.cfg, on Red Hat Linux 3.0:

      LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19

Add this environment variable to the section for the Agent
for Oracle, as in the following example:

      [46]
      # Oracle Agent
      NAME   OracleAgent
      VERSION    11.5.0
      HOME       /opt/CA/BABoraagt
      #ENV       BAB_HOME=/opt/CA/BrightStorARCserve
      ENV        CAS_ENV_ORACLE_AGENT_HOME=/opt/CA/BABoraagt
      #ENV       CA_ENV_NUM_OF_REST_BUFF=
      ENV        DAYS_ORAGENTD_LOGS_RETAINED=1
      ENV        DAYS_RMAN_SCRIPTS_RETAINED=1
      ENV        LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19
      ENV        CAS_INITIATED=1
      ENV        ORACLE_SHUTDOWN_TYPE=immediate
      #ENV   NLS_LANG=american
      ENV        NLS_DATE_FORMAT=MM/DD/YYYY/HH24:MI:SS
      ENV    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/CA/BABcmagt:/usr/lib:/opt/CA/BABoraagt:/opt/CA/BABoraagt/lib:/opt/CA/CAlib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
      BROWSER        oraclebr
      AGENT      oragentd

Additionally, you must set this environment variable before
     starting Oracle.

*   Although the BrightStor(R) ARCserve(R) Backup Disk Staging
Option has been added to BrightStor ARCserve Backup, child
jobs generated by RMAN use the full backup staging policy.
You cannot currently extend incremental or differential
staging policies to the child jobs generated by RMAN,
although this functionality is expected to be included in a
     future release.

______________________________________________________________________
6.0  Known Issues

The following sections provide information about issues
known to exist in BrightStor ARCserve Backup for this
service pack. In addition to the issues known to exist for
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup components in this service
pack, after the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup
r11.5, information relating to the following agents was
included in this readme because these agents are now
included in this CD:

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows Agent for Oracle

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle

*   BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for Oracle

The added information is identical to the information
supplied for these agents by the readme files for each
platform for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

For information originally released with BrightStor
ARCserve Backup r11.5 and included in this release of
BrightStor ARCserve Backup, see the section
Known Issues for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

______________________________________________________________________
6.1  Known Issues for the Client Agent for Windows

The following issues related to the Client Agent for
Windows are known to exist in this release:

*   When you restore sessions backed up with the 32-bit Client
Agent for Windows to a machine running the 64-bit Client
Agent for Windows, encrypted sessions cannot be restored.

______________________________________________________________________
6.2  Known Issues for the Agent for Oracle (Windows)

The following issues related to the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup for Windows Agent for Oracle are known to exist in
this release:

*   If you use WORM media as the destination for any
cross-platform jobs involving the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle or the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup for Linux Agent for Oracle, these agents may not
behave as expected. Child jobs are submitted by the agent,
and, because WORM media is not supported on the UNIX or
Linux agents, these child jobs may use destinations other
     than the WORM media.

______________________________________________________________________
6.3  Known Issues for the Agent for Oracle (UNIX)

The following issues related to the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle are known to exist in this
release:

*   The Restore by Media and Restore by Session options are not
     supported for this release.

*   You cannot back up multiple Oracle instances in the same
     job.

*   You cannot mix Oracle instance backups and other backup
types (for example file system backup or any other database
     type backup).

*   Due to a known issue with Oracle, if you are using Oracle
8.1.6 32-bit on AIX 4.3.3, you may encounter difficulty
restoring a successfully created backup because RMAN fails
to accurately recognize the backup. You can, however,
restore your data using an older backup. Therefore, we
recommend that you periodically run a validate operation on
your backups to ensure that you have a prior backup from
which to restore. If you reduce the block size and run the
backup again, you may be able to enable the restore
operation (although no specific valid value has been
     determined).

*   The Smart Restore functionality is not supported for the
     Agent for Oracle.

*   Merge operations on file system devices containing Oracle
backup sessions are not supported for this release.

*   You must supply the correct host name when registering
Agent for Oracle nodes in the BrightStor ARCserve Backup
     database.

*   The agent does not support session passwords.

*   You must use an RMAN Catalog to run jobs with the Oracle
option Include Control File Oracle option enabled from the
Oracle Restore Manager. If you enabled the control file
autobackup feature for the target database before using the
Agent for Oracle, use your own RMAN scripts to restore an
autobackup of the control file. For more information, see
     the Agent for Oracle Guide.

*   Compare Media to Disk is not supported on Agent for Oracle
     sessions.

*   If you select multiple channels to back up, you must have
available, at minimum, the same number of device groups as
channels and you must select the Any Group option in the
     GUI.

______________________________________________________________________
6.4  Known Issues for the Agent for Oracle (Linux)

7.0  International Support

An internationalized product is an English product that
runs correctly on local language versions of the required
operating system and required third-party products, and
supports local language data for input and output.
Internationalized products also support the ability to
specify local language conventions for date, time, currency
and number formats.

A translated product (sometimes referred to as a localized
product) is an internationalized product that includes
local language support for the product's user interface,
online help and other documentation, as well as local
language default settings for date, time, currency, and
number formats.

In addition to the English release of this product, the
BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agents, the BrightStor
ARCserve Backup for Windows Agent for Oracle, the
BrightStor ARCserve Backup for UNIX Agent for Oracle, and
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Linux Agent for Oracle
have been internationalized and translated into the
following languages:

*   Brazilian-Portuguese

*   French

*   German

*   Italian

*   Japanese

*   Korean

*   Simplified Chinese

*   Spanish

*   Traditional Chinese

If you run these agents in a language environment not
included in the list, you may experience problems.

For information originally released with BrightStor
ARCserve Backup r11.5 and included in this release of
BrightStor ARCserve Backup, see the
section Language Certifications for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5.

8.0  Documentation

Each PDF guide in a documentation set has a unique Document
ID (DID) that appears on the title page of the guide. The
DID uses the first six characters to identify the guide, a
hyphen, then two characters at the end to identify the
edition and language in which it is written. For example,
D01165-2E identifies the second edition of the English
version of the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agents
Guide. If a third edition of this guide is published, the
DID is incremented to D01165-3E. The DID is used without
the hyphen for the .PDF file on the product media and on
SupportConnect as shown in Filename column of the following
table.

The DIDs and filenames for the component guides included on
this CD are:

13.0  Known Issues for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

The following sections provide information about issues
known to exist for the BrightStor ARCserve Backup
components included on this CD for BrightStor ARCserve
Backup r11.5.

Note: For information about issues known to exist only in
the release of BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and SP2
for the components included on this CD, see the section
Known Issues.

______________________________________________________________________
13.1  Known Issues for the Client Agents

The following issues related to the Client Agents are known
to exist in this release:

*   For the Client Agent for Windows, installing 32-bit
components on a 64-bit machine generates two copies of the
file PortsConfig.cfg on the machine. The PortsConfig.cfg
file for the 64-bit components is in C:\Program
     Files\CA\SharedComponents\BrightStor and the
PortsConfig.cfg file for the 32-bit components is in
     C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SharedComponents\BrightStor.  If
you make changes to one, you must make the same changes to
the other, or the components may not be able to contact one
     another.

*   You cannot use the Client Agent for NetWare included in
this release with the BrightStor ARCserve Backup for
NetWare r11.1 Manager. The Client Agent for NetWare
included in this release requires the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup for Windows r11.5 Manager GUI.

*   When running the Client Agent for NetWare on NetWare 4.2,
the agent requires the clibaux.nlm enhancement module
provided by Novell (refer to Novell Technical Information
     Document 2955000).

*   When a full NetWare machine is selected for backup, the NDS
session is not backed up. You must explicitly select the
NDS session and other volumes to be backed up.

*   The Client Agent for NetWare handles only one job at a
time. If a backup job includes the NetWare volume and NDS
of the same node, it creates two nodes for the job in the
job package, and, because multiplexing or multistreaming
jobs create two jobs for the NetWare node and the two jobs
run simultaneously, the agent rejects the second job.

*   The NetWare Services branch has been removed from the
Network tree in the Backup and Restore Managers. To back up
a NetWare machine from the BrightStor ARCserve Backup host,
you must install the Client Agent for NetWare on the
     machine.

*   Whole node backup operations are not supported with the
     Client Agent for AS400.

14.0  Documentation for BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5

Each guide in a documentation set has a unique Document
Identification (DID) designation that appears on the title
page of the guide. The DID uses six characters to identify
the guide, a hyphen, then two characters at the end to
identify the edition and the language in which it is
written. For example, D01165-1E identifies the first
edition of the English version of the BrightStor ARCserve
Backup Client Agents Guide. When the second edition of this
guide was published, the DID was incremented to D01165-2E.

Note: For information about the guides released with
BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 SP1 and PS2, see the
Documentation section.{\ai}

The DID appears on the title page of PDF files. The DID
without the hyphen is also used for the eight-character
file name for PDF files on product media and on
SupportConnect.

This CD provides the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client
Agents Guide. The following are the DID and file name for
this guide:

*   DID: D01165-1E

*   File Name: D011651E.PDF
