APCRDOWN.NLM to Perform Multiple (Secondary) Server Shutdown
The utility APCRDOWN.NLM shuts down multiple, remote NetWare servers. Use this NLM when more than one
NetWare server is powered by a single UPS. To use this NLM, you must first create two files, apcrdown.ini and a
NetWare Command File. Use any ASCII text editor to create these files.
To create the apcrdown.ini file and the NetWare Command File (NCF), perform the following steps:
1. Create a subdirectory anywhere on your system except in the \public directory. APC recommends that it be
a subdirectory of the PowerChute plus installation directory.
2. Protect this directory so that only the system supervisor or a user with supervisor equivalence has access to
its contents, since the apcrdown.ini file contains supervisor (or equivalent) passwords for servers.
3. Create the apcrdown.ini file in this subdirectory, with each line of the file in the following format:
servername user_name password NDS_treename
For actual values, use the following:
For example, if the remote file server is mfg_srv_1, the user name is supervisor, and the password is
widget, the line in apcrdown.ini for shutting down that server would be the following:
mfg_srv_1 supervisor widget
For an NDS server, fully-resolved names are required:
mfg_srv_1.mfg_unit.mfg-org admin.mfg_unit.mfg_org widget tree1
4. If you have a network of five servers (four remote and one host) and want to shut down all five, create an
apcrdown.ini file containing four lines in the preceding format, one for each remote server. Do not include
a line for the host server.
5. Create a NetWare Command File (NCF) that includes the following line:
servername Name of the remote server to be shut down. For NDS, use
the fully-resolved NDS name.
user_name Name of a user with console supervisor privileges on the
remote server. For NDS, use the fully-resolved NDS name.
password Password for that user on the remote server
NDS_treename The treename is an optional parameter. If this treename is
not given for an NDS server, the current treename will be
used.

Load APCRDOWN path_to_ini
Set path_to_ini to the fully-resolved path name of the apcrdown.ini file you created in Step 3.
For example, if your PowerChute plus installation directory is sys:\pwrchute and your apcrdown.ini file is
in sys:\pwrchute\down, the line in your .ncf file should be as follows:
Load APCRDOWN sys:\pwrchute\down
If other shutdown activities are required, include the necessary commands in the same NetWare Command File (NCF).
See Lotus Notes/Domino Shutdown Utility for information on the commands needed for Lotus Notes/Domino
shutdown.
