Part Check is a tool for technical support and IS departments of companies that host complex trees. It interrogates each server that hosts a replica about their view of the tree partitioning, and compares the different views, searching for inconsistencies. It will detect several types of partition and replica ring corruption. Usage: 1) Startup At startup, some default servers that are easily accessible, are queried about their view of the default tree. The more rights to the tree you have, the more information is detected. Note: the primary tree will be scanned initially, but in multi-tree environments you may select an other tree that you are authenticated to. 2) Analysis Press the "Analyse" button to start the analysis, and qurey each of the listed servers. In complex trees the list of servers will grow as more partitions are detected. In complex trees over WANs or with hundreds of servers this process may take several hours. You may interrupt this step temporarily by pressing the "Pause"/"Continue" button, but be aware that an analysis is only useful after a complete run. If a server has been analysed, as an indicator the NDS version will show up in the grid. The bottom status line shows the current activity. 3) Check Replica Rings When the analysis is complete, the replica rings are automatically checked. If the analysis is paused, you may analyse the partial data by pressing the "Check Replica Rings" button, but you may get inconsistent results. 4) Tab: Replicas This is a working list of all detected replicas, as the participating servers see them. This table will be analysed at the end of the process. It holds this information: Partition Name / Host of Replica (Replica Number - Replica State) [Source of this information] 5) Tab: Report As each server is queried, several informational messages, as well as error messages will be displayed. The severity of any alerts or errors will also be indicated. 6) Tab: Analysis The upper half is a compressed version of the replica information (see above), and also a working list. The lower half will give a more compressed summary report The reports will also be saved as ASCII files for future analysis.
